Grassroots Grants Programme

The aim of this fund is to support and strengthen community life and tackle disadvantage by improving funding to small voluntary community organisations.

The Foundation is managing this funding stream from the Office of the Third Sector which is being run between summer 2008 and March 2011.

Conditions are as follows:

  • Groups can apply for a minimum of £250 and a maximun of £5,000.
  • Applicants can bid for a single one-off payment or a number of grants that total no more than £5,000 in the life of the grant scheme. In the case of multiple applications, only one grant can be awarded in a 12 month period.
  • An application could be entirely for capital purchases (e.g. computers, photocopiers, digital projectors etc.) or equally for all operational costs (e.g. rent, stationery, telephone costs, activities etc.) or for a combination of these elements.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to receive a Grassroots Grant, an organisation must:

  • Be a not-for-profit, third sector voluntary or community group, active in your local community for at least 6 months.
  • Have an evidenced income of less than £30,000 p.a., taken as an average turnover for the last three financial years (or over the life of the project if less than three years old) and net of any grants received through the Grassroots Grants programme.
  • Be volunteer led (ie. with a largely volunteer-based input).
  • Be connected with and / or meeting the needs of the local community.
  • Have a governing document that has as minimum the name, aim / purpose, objects, a dissolution clause for the organisation, a list of Trustees / Committee members, and Trustee / Committee member signatures.

Deadlines for Applications

Eligible applications will go to the Grants Panel which meets every 2 months.

The next few deadlines for receiving completed application forms are as follows:
  • 24th Apil 2010
  • 26th June 2010
  • 4th September 2010

Within 2 weeks of the panel meeting.
