Giving - Why Help Oxfordshire?

Why Help Oxfordshire?

The county of Oxfordshire consists of Oxford city, a range of large and small market towns and many rural communities. A common perception is that there are no areas of deprivation or disadvantage in the county.

This is a myth.

Whilst it is true that Oxfordshire is affluent on national measures, this average result is seriously skewed by areas of extreme affluence – and disguises pockets of real need.

Six surprising facts about Oxfordshire that you may not know:

  • There are twelve areas in Oxfordshire that fall into the category of 20% most deprived in the country.
  • There is one area which falls into the category of the 6% most deprived in the country for Education, Skills and Training.
  • There are several areas where 40-50% of the adult population have absolutely no educational qualifications at all.
  • Oxfordshire is the most rural county in the South East region- over 50% of the population live in settlements of less than 10,000 people.
  • There are a number of rural areas in Oxfordshire which fall into the 20% most deprived nationally for Barriers to Access to Housing and Services.
  • Life expectancy in the county varies widely. There is a difference of seventeen years between best and worst!!
