"A lot of people with learning disabilities in the county come from disadvantaged areas and low income families. This makes them doubly disadvantaged and means they have very few opportunities for both sporting activity and social functions. There are very few specialist facilities in the region able to offer community activities suitable for people with learning disabilities. Children who have learning disability are much more likely to be excluded from school sporting activities and being part of a school team is very limited to them. Our main goals are to increase the number of people with learning difficulties taking part in regular training and accessing a competition pathway and to increase their health and well being and help reduce obesity levels. We will increase their sense of inclusion and being a team member and this will also help increase their self confidence. We will increase awareness in the community of opportunities available for athletes with learning disabilities and set up better links with mainstream clubs to 'persuade' them to provide increased provision for our members."
